Hello and welcome to my blog.

My name is Rebecca Gallagher and each week I share what’s going on in the journey to build a creative voice. Hoping to bring encouragement, possibly a nudge, and maybe a giggle or two. Whether it’s documenting the journey of creating new artwork every day for two years, sharing the process of sending 50 shirts to 50 Congresswomen, or waxing poetic about my love of coffee, I hope to bring you value. I’d love to hear from you and find out what you’re into. Drop a message, question, or just say hi!

Short and Sweet

Keeping it short this week, but wanted to share my update of 30-hours of work on my hole-punch pointillism bird. Excited to be adding color and really pleased with how it is coming together.

As I mentioned last week I wanted to share an update on the status of the Typism 8 book that I have artwork featured in. The fine folks at Typism have been diligently sending updates about the books, which were delayed because of some printing issues.… Read More

Making Progress

We are now up to 20-hours on this hole-punch pointillism bird, which is a quarter of the way through my estimated 80-hours to complete the artwork. At this point, I’m thinking the estimate is gonna be pretty accurate.

I continue to enjoy this style and refine how I work with the dots. You wouldn’t think there would be much to gluing hole-punches to a page, but there is quite a bit of color theory and how our brain processes information that are in play. #graphicnerd… Read More

10 Hours and Counting…

I am pleased to say that I reached my goal of working on my latest Hole Punch Pointillism for 10 hours this past week. Please enjoy this animated gif showing the progress.

SIDENOTE: There are a lot of people who feel very strongly about how to pronounce gif and after falling down an internet rabbit-hole on the origin of that word and all the various people who have weighed in on this issue and many contentious articles that said words like gift or giraffe proved their point as to how it should be pronounced, it then occurred to me that I don’t really care. #igiveup… Read More

Time to Shine

There are times when creating that the best thing to do is give open-ended time to play and explore. Then there are times when you just need to get the job done.

We are approximately 70 days away from ArtPrize® (the international art competition I am participating in). I know this because on the home page of their website they have a countdown set to tell the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds that remain. #gulp… Read More

1973

I was born in 1973.

I remember watching the cartoon Underdog and being genuinely concerned for our intrepid animated hero when Simon Barsinister swapped out all phone booths in the city with his evil “Phoney Booths” to hypnotize everyone to do his evil bidding. Seriously, the end of the episode when it looked like Underdog was going to destroy Sweet Polly really shook me.… Read More

Audio Visual Update

As promised, this week I’m going to share updates of some projects I’ve been working on. One is regarding new artwork I’ve been creating and the other is an audio project I recently completed. Let’s start with the artwork. Last year Dean & I attended an incredible event called ArtPrize. It’s a 2-week long art competition held in Grand Rapids, MI. Our amazing friend, host-extraordinaire and Michigonian? Michigonite? (basically she lives in Michigan) Amy invited us to attend. #amyrocks… Read More

They Call That A Win-Win

Before we dive into today’s post I want to give a heads-up that I’m gonna be talking about bodily fluids and things we do in bathrooms, so if you are not interested in joining that journey you may want to sit this week out. #nojudgement… Read More

Anchors Away

This past week marked a few milestones around here. First, our youngest completed her Senior year of high school. Dean & I are all kinds of proud of both our girls and continue to marvel at what comes with this parenting gig.… Read More
